Infrastructure & Facilities

The department has developed various facilities to support PG teaching and research.

Laboratories

The department is equipped with two postgraduate (PG) laboratories that provide basic instrumentation facilities to support MSc programs in Industrial Microbiology and Life Sciences. Additionally, a dedicated undergraduate (UG) laboratory is being established to cater to the BSc (Agriculture) program. Furthermore, the department boasts specialized research laboratories, each contributing to specific areas of study:

1.Plant Science Laboratory

Mentor: Dr. Anjana Jajoo

This laboratory focuses on various aspects of photosynthesis. It is complemented by an Algal Research Facility, which supports research in algal biology and its relation to photosynthetic processes.

2. Immunology Laboratory

Mentor: Dr. K. Hajela

Research in this laboratory centers on innate immunity, exploring the body's first line of defense against pathogens and its underlying molecular mechanisms.

3. Microbiology Laboratory

Mentor: Dr. T. Banerjee

This lab specializes in studying microbial transformation reactions, with a focus on understanding microbial processes that play a role in biotechnology, bioremediation, and industrial applications.

4. Environmental Biology Laboratory

Mentor: Dr. V. Thakur

The lab is dedicated to the study of environmental toxicology, investigating the effects of environmental pollutants on biological systems and developing strategies for ecological conservation.

5. Algal lab

Mentor: Dr. A. Jajoo

The lab is dedicated to applications of algae for bio- remediation of Polycyclic hydrocarbons and micro-plastics.

6.Plant Tissue Culture lab

The lab is dedicated to applications of algae for bio- remediation of Polycyclic hydrocarbons and micro-plastics.

These facilities provide students and researchers with a robust platform to engage in advanced scientific investigations, fostering innovation and practical expertise in their respective fields of study.

Library and e-Resources

The department have dedicated departmental library with 1450 books with 100+ titles and reference books available for PG and PhD students. Additionally, 100+ Thesis and Past 20 year’s PG dissertation reports are also available for the reference. The library has seating capacity of 20 visitor in reading area. The students / staff also have access to the central library facility with more facilities like more books, Subscription to online databases, access to e-books, e-journals, and research articles. Managed through software for catalog browsing, reservations, and renewals.

Smart Classrooms

We have 3 classrooms equipped with LCD projectors.

Computer facilities & Software

Our institution offers a well-equipped computer facility featuring modern systems (total 10 computers) and high-speed internet connectivity. All teachers have computer/printer etc.

Animal house facility

The institution houses a dedicated Animal House Facility, designed to support research and educational activities in life sciences to conduct ethical and regulated experiments in fields like pharmacology, toxicology, and biotechnology. Key features include: Temperature-controlled housing units to ensure animal welfare, Separate rooms for different species to prevent cross-contamination, Ventilation systems and hygienic enclosures for maintaining optimal living conditions. A well-trained staff manages feeding, cleaning, and monitoring the health of animals.
