School of Life Sciences is one of the oldest departments of the university existing from the date of inception of the university and has completed about 55 years. It started M.Sc Life Science (1971), M.Sc Biochemistry (1983), M.Sc Biotechnology (1989) and M.Sc Microbiology (1992) changed to Industrial Microbiology in 2001. School also offers Ph.D in Life Science. Separate departments of Biochemistry and Biotechnology emerged from School of Life Sciences only.
The School of Life Sciences has been recognized as a Centre of Excellence by the M.P. Council of Higher Education. In recognition of its achievements in research and teaching, the department has received special grants from UGC, New Delhi, like DRS, COSIST, Special Assistance programme (SAP PHASE I, II, III) and Innovative Programme grant. DST, New Delhi has also awarded infrastructure grant (FIST grant-Phase I, II) to the department for the enhancement of teaching and research.
